About the Campaign
In December 2024, the National Football League Alumni Association (NFL Alumni) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Cancer Prevention and Control in partnership with Tanaq Management Services, LLC launched the GEAR UP Against Cancer campaign.
According to the CDC, colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Statistics show that Black and Latino men are at higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer.
The good news is that colorectal cancer can be prevented or found early through regular screenings. This is important because unlike some other cancers, colorectal cancer doesn’t always have symptoms. All adults 45 years of age and older should be screened regularly. There are several screening options, including some that can be done at home.
The campaign features former Atlanta Falcons and former Tennessee Titans who are conducting outreach and education about the need for prevention and screening through social media, earned media, and community events. The campaign also aims to gain important input from and provide support to cancer survivors and their caregivers.
The GEAR UP Against Cancer campaign embodies the triple mission of NFL Alumni, of “Caring for our Own,” “Caring for Kids,” and “Caring for the Community.”
